There are rainbows, sunshine and beautiful birds singing because you finally snagged some free time and you’re ready to go on a date with your spouse. Congratulations!! Well, if you’re relationship is anything like mine then this is something that doesn’t come along very often, and when it does your ideas stop at dinner and a movie. Maybe it’s the long hours of motherhood or the sleepless nights but that’s as far as you get. I know I can’t be the only one.
For me I needed something that took the thought process out of the mix. Something that just said, “This is your date, go and enjoy it.” Simple, easy and super fun!
So I decided to make a Date Jar. I spent a couple hours putting it together and coming up with some fun ideas so that when date night came around there was no guess work needed. Just pick a stick and done! That’s my cup of tea if you know what I mean!
Bonus: It makes date night that much more fun because it’s a little surprise and adventure all in itself.
A Date-Jar is so simple to make, can be used over and over again, and you can even add to it when you randomly think of a fun idea!
What You Need:
- Fat Popsicle Sticks
- Washie Tape, Paint, or Markers
- A Fine Point Marker
Take your Popsicle sticks and write a date idea on each Popsicle stick with the fine point marker. I have found that normal sharpie markers and Crayola markers bleed too much but a fine point marker works perfect.
Next you will divide them up into categories and assign each category a Washi tape pattern or color. For example my categories where Cheap/Free, Under $75, and over $100. The category for dates under $75 can be quite cheap but it all just depends on what your taste is. Also you can change up the categories to fit your lifestyle and budget best, these are just what we did. Once they are organized into different categories wrap some Washi tap around the top of each Popsicle stick. If Washi tape isn’t your thing or you don’t have any then just use paint or markers and color the top of each stick!
Last you just put the Popsicle sticks in your jar and *BOOM* your done! Super simple right!
Here is a list of the dates I have in our Jar! Feel free to use them all, some, or even none! Make the jar your own! You know what you and your spouse enjoy so just start there and build off of it.

Right now a good portion of our date ideas in our jar are for the summertime. When it starts to get colder I switch out the summer activities for fall/winter ones. Fall Festival, Corn Maze, Pumpkin Patch, Pumpkin Carving, Sledding, Snowboarding, etc. Luckily this idea is super easy to customize not only to your lifestyle but also to the current season.
So if coming up with date ideas on the spot is as appealing as a P90X workout then do yourself a favor and make yourself a Date Jar! Also I’d love to hear about the fun date ideas you come up with, so comment below and share!
